Russ Williams
Russ Williams is a true broadcasting god with three Gold Sony Awards under his belt and almost two decades sat behind the microphone at One Golden Square. As well as helping you through the afternoon on Absolute Classic Rock, he also hosts mid-mornings on our sister station, Absolute Radio.
This mighty oak of a presenter started out from acorn-like beginnings. Russ trained at London's National Broadcasting School in Programming and Journalism, winning the school's 'Most Outstanding Student' award. He then started his career at Brighton's Southern Sound Radio, before moving to Finland where he presented his own show on Helsinki's Radio 1.
Russ returned to the UK and joined Newcastle's Metro Radio before defecting to London's Capital Radio where he stood in for Chris Tarrant as well as hosting the weekend breakfast show. He's survived lots of changes during his time at One Golden Square and is one of the most iconic radio voices of a generation. Christian O'Connell describes him as "The Midfield General" and for once, Christian's right.
A devoted Spurs fan, Russ has had two books published, 'Football Babylon 1' was a bestseller and that led to 'Football Babylon 2', which was released at the end of 1998. He has also written about football for The Express, 90 minutes, Goal Magazine and Total Football as well as being part of the ITV Sport Team.
Russ has met and interviewed some of the biggest names in rock music including amazing interviews with the The Rolling Stones.
